Petrobras will undertake a massive procurement of offshore support vessels.

Petrobras to Enter into a Major Contract for Offshore Support Vessels

Brazilian state-owned giant Petrobras announced last Thursday (March 28) that it had authorized the contracting of support vessels for offshore exploration and production logistics. This measure aims to meet both short- and long-term demand, with a focus on efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, Petrobras seeks to modernize its exploration and production logistics, boosting the Brazilian industry and ensuring effective operations in the future. In the coming years, it is estimated that approximately 200 support vessels will be chartered between 2024 and 2028.

These vessels will be used both to replace existing contracts and to expand the fleet.

Among the opportunities, the construction of up to 38 new vessels stands out, with a focus on modern and sustainable technological solutions.

The first tender calls for the procurement of 12 PSV-class support vessels.

Diversification of Petrobras' Fleet

In addition, Petrobras also plans to charter coastal vessels, FPSOs, and vessels for subsea and well operations, as well as to decommission platforms.

The company estimates that, by 2028, 14 new platform ships will be put into service, creating opportunities for the Brazilian offshore industry.

Petrobras is currently conducting six procurement processes for FPSO-type platform vessels, both for chartering and for its own fleet.

Impact on the Economy and Jobs
Petrobras’ total investment in its operations from 2024 to 2028 will amount to US$ 102 billion.

This amount is expected to generate 280,000 direct and indirect jobs per year. The company’s projects, which aim to strengthen offshore infrastructure, will boost the domestic industry.
